Hon Scott Morrison MP
Acting Minister for Health
House of Representatives
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600
12th March 2021
Dear Minister,
Extension of telehealth provisions
I write on behalf of the Continuity of Care Collaboration (CCC), a group of more than 40 organisations who came together at the start of the pandemic to address the drop in patients attending for non-COVID-19 healthcare.
The group encompasses medical colleges, industry associations, patient groups and peak bodies.
There was a significant drop in pathology testing rates during the pandemic that is now returning closer to normal levels, but we continue to monitor the situation. CCC members are committed to encouraging Australians to seek healthcare when they need it, and reiterate that it is safe and appropriate to access in-person care when required.
The CCC would like to express support for calls made by the Australian Medical Association and others that telehealth provisions should be extended beyond 31st March 2021.
The introduction of telehealth measures has provided increased access to healthcare for many people in Australia during this time, and continues to be highly valued by many patients and health professionals.
Our healthcare services have remained dedicated to providing excellent patient care throughout the pandemic and no doubt will continue to do so during the vaccine rollout. We believe that telehealth is a vital tool that enables healthcare providers to maintain the quality and continuity of that care.
Should you require further information regarding the Collaboration and activities to date, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Your sincerely,
John Crothers
