Ransomware attacks have targeted the information technology systems of a number of hospitals and health services in Gippsland and south-west Victoria, according to the government. Despite the severity and wide-ranging nature of the attack, so far there has been no indication the hackers were able to access personal patient information, according to Victoria’s Department of Premier and Cabinet. The attack, which affected hospitals affiliated with the Gippsland Health Alliance and of the South West Alliance of Rural Health, impacted a number of servers across the state and has resulted in a loss of access to patient histories and other data sets.
