The virus has claimed at least 55 lives in China and infected more than 1700 around the world, including four people in Australia , since it was discovered in the Chinese city of Wuhan. While the World Health Organisation has stopped short of declaring an international public health emergency, scientists and health experts are racing to understand how this new virus is being transmitted and how contagious it is.
